17 pass level one coaching course

KOTA KINABALU: A total 17 participants passed their level one World Athletics Coaches Education and Certification System (CECS) course held at Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex recently.

The 12-day course jointly organised by Sabah Athletics Association (SAA), the Malaysian Athletics Association and World Athletics was conducted by Anbarasu Subramaniam and Roselyn Hamero.

The beginner course is to produce qualified youth coaches to train and prepare young children for kids’ athletics competitions (7-12 year-old) as well as to ensure that they will be competent and able to take the kids through to the youth programmes of training and competition relevant to teens’ athletics (13-15 years of age).
However, out of the 13 males and four females who managed to get through, only nine qualified for the next level course emphasising on effective work with youth and beginner athletes.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin, who officiated the closing ceremony, hopes the knowledge gained by the participants will help them identify and develop athletes at the grassroots level.

“I am confident this coaching course can train the participants to become a group of effective, certified athletic coaches who are able to help develop athletics in the state of Sabah in particular and Malaysia in general,” he said.

Meanwhile, also present at the ceremony were Youth and Sports Ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Mansur Ansun, SAA vice chairman I Leonny Leo and other SAA committee members.
